Vibrant Employer Award

What is the Vibrant Employer Award?

The Vibrant Employer Award honours and recognizes a Calgary small or medium sized enterprise that excels in a number of the following areas:

  • Identified by their employees as a workplace of choice;
  • Values their employees as reflected by their practices;
  • Supports and encourages a diverse workplace;
  • Supports and encourages employee work/life balance;
  • Uses innovative methods to heighten the overall quality of life of their employees, including their health, economic and social well being;
  • Contributes to their local and/or broader community, for example by charitable giving or volunteerism;
  • Demonstrates a strong record of ethical business conduct; and
  • Demonstrates consideration for environmentally friendly workplace practices.

What criteria do I need to meet in order to apply?

To apply, applicants must:

  • Qualify as a small business (independently owned and operated business with total number of employees not exceeding 100);
  • Be owned and operated by an Alberta resident;
  • Conduct major business activity within the province of Alberta with the location of the business head office within the city of Calgary;
  • Be owner-operated businesses for a minimum of three years;
  • Have not received this award in the past five years;
  • Have a representative who is able to attend the Award ceremony; and
  • Agree to allow positive results of the survey to be publicly shared.

When can I apply?

The 2009 application period is open from March 1 2009 to August 10, 2009.

When is the award presented?

The Vibrant Employer Award is presented annually at the United Nations Association of Canada Corporate Responsibility Day held in October each year.
