Pledge

Calgary Living Wage Leaders are recognized for paying a Living Wage to all employees (full‐time, part‐time, casual) and contract staff, who are not direct employees but who work 14 hours or more per week to assist the organization. Calgary Living Wage Leaders are recognized for showing the way for all Calgary employers by taking positive steps to contribute to the reduction of poverty in Calgary. Additionally, Calgary Living Wage Leaders are automatically eligible for the Vibrant Employer Award.

As a Calgary Living Wage Leader, my organization believes that all hardworking Calgarians have a right to afford their basic needs and that paying a Living Wage is one way to instill dignity and respect for all employees in the workplace. Paying a Living Wage helps to create better employees, better parents, more active community members and happier, healthier people. This creates more vibrant workplaces and a more vibrant city.

My organization pledges to:

  1. Strive to be a fair and equitable employer, valuing the respect and dignity of all of its employees, as well as those not directly employed by the organization but who contribute to the work of the organization.
  2. Pay a Living Wage to:
    • All employees (full‐time, part‐time and casual).
    • All contract staff, who are not direct employees but who work 14 hours or more per week to assist the organization.
    • All tipped or commissioned staff, where the sum of the base salary and tips or commission when divided by the number of hours worked, are equal to or greater than a Living Wage.
  3. Strive to maintain its status as a Living Wage Leader by increasing wages to meet a new Living Wage amount, within 12 months from the time of any Living Wage increase.
